This year is already off to a hot start, from premier talents and up-and-comers alike. We've been staying in tune to both types of artists, and we've got plenty to share from the month of January. Without further ado, let's get to it - here's our music roundup for January.

We've made sure to mention Midwxst in 2022, as he was putting in work throughout the year. To kick off this year, he dropped a super interesting visual with Denzel Curry, called "Tally." It matches the modern sonic vibe with an old school visual, and it is without a doubt one of the most memorable videos we've seen so far this year. This magazine, Country Song Roundup, No. 16 was published by American Folk Publications, Inc. in Derby, Connecticut, in 1952. The paper cover with yellow, red, pink, and black ink features an image of American country music singer Hawkshaw Hawkins. The inside pages are made of white paper with black ink text and images.

The Mingus Dynasty Band performs this Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vermont Jazz Center at 72 Cotton Mill Hill #222, Brattleboro. The world-touring group showcases the music of late jazz bassist and composer, Charles Mingus with Craig Handy, tenor saxophone; Conrad Herwig, trombone; Jim Ridl, piano; Boris Kozlov, bass; and Donald Edwards, drums. Mingus, also an accomplished pianist, bandleader and composer, toured in the 1940s with such artists as Louis Armstrong, Kid Ory and Lionel Hampton and played and recorded with Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Art Tatum and Duke Ellington in the 1950s. He formed his own publishing and recording companies, left behind more than 300 compositions and founded a workshop that enabled young composers to have their new works performed in concert and on recordings. The Mingus Dynasty band was the first band organized after his death in 1979, collaborating with his own sidemen. Admission is on a sliding scale from $20-$50. Masks are required.

Settled largely by Gaelic-speaking Catholic Scots in the early 19th century, Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia boasts the highest per capita number of great fiddlers in the Celtic world. Cape Breton fiddlers have a unique, hard-driving style and a repertoire that mixes Irish jigs, reels and hornpipes with Caledonian airs, marches and strathspeys. Jerry Holland is one of the most technically accomplished, listenable and original fiddlers on the island, one whose compositions have been widely recorded by Irish musicians. This long-unavailable 1982 recording, now reissued on CD, is an all-time Cape Breton classic. With backing from guitarist Dave MacIsaac and pianist Hilda Chiasson, Jerry plays tune medleys that start slowly, then build in intensity and quicken in tempo to climax in a string of fast-paced reels. As students are returning to D.C., so are your favorite musicians. October brings a variety of musical events students and residents are sure to be excited about. Here are seven concerts to check out this month.

Want to sip some delicious craft beer while you listen to music? From now until October, find a seat at Redbeard Brewing Company on the last Saturday night of each month for their Live Summer Concert Series. Favorite groups like The Judy Chops, Six Shot Rebellion, The Findells, and Drägön Wägön will headline. 6-9 p.m.

In 2003, Schaefer was honored with the American Music Center's prestigious Letter of Distinction for his "substantial contributions to advancing the field of contemporary American music in the United States and abroad." In May 2006, New York magazine cited Schaefer as one of "the people whose ideas, power, and sheer will are changing New York" in its Influentials issue. He began blogging for WNYC when accompanying the New York Philharmonic on its historic (and apparently very weird) trip to North Korea in 2008 and continues to blog at soundcheck.org.

Thanksgiving has passed, it's now December, and that ringing in your ears may be tinnitus but it's also sleighbells. It's time for holiday music whether you're ready or not. If you like your holiday music more star-studded, Spotify has enlisted Kelly Clarkson, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Josh Groban, Wyclef Jean, Wolf Alice, Norah Jones and more for its "Spotify Singles: Holiday" playlist which also has DMX's version of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." The free event, which ran from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., featured a car and bike show, a barbeque lunch, live music along with activities for kids such as a bounce house, face painting, balloon animals and games such as giant Jenga and giant Checkers.
